Re: The amazing songs of somafm:)
Tue, April 5, 2005 - 4:16 PMWhen I first heard soma fm at 102.3 upon the playa, Black Rock City, 2001, my life transformed forever.
I had been listening to musical star streams (the syndicated radio show, every week of the year) for a few years, to find when I heard soma fm, that I found what I wasn't sure yet what I was looking, listening for as the next big musical shift in my life.
Actually, I found them because in 2000 I decided for 2001 that I would bring some taping equipment to tape some of the great music fm broadcasting upon the playa. After a few days of ok recording, bouncing through the dial here and there, from time to time while at camp, I suddenly wound into 102.3--WOW! So I ended up recording 10 tapes, including recording over nearly everything that I had previously recorded, and this music was my 70-80% staple of music listening for the next year (didn't have a computer). It was mostly drone zone, as drone zone played from midnight to 10 am, and groove salad and secret agent filled up the rest of the daytime.
Did same thing in 2002, but with 2 1/2 times as many tapes, and again this music was my main staple for the next year, until I was able to listen to the online stream (i.e. also after the congress passed that legislation allowing streamers to stream without paying exhorbitant sums of $).
I've mostly listened to drone zone, and an equal mix of groove salad and secret agent.
Cool to be here!
